The Family is Unique
No two families are the same. They are all different. Each had
its own specific and unique circumstances. This is the result of all of our different
choices that we make throughout our lives. This week in class we talked about
one family’s situation. This family was from Mexico and were trying to make a
better life for themselves in the United States. For this family they dealt with
the father leaving, friendships breaking and constant fear but hope for the
future. We all deal with things in our families that other families or even our
own have a hard time or choose not to understand. And that’s why we judge, because
we don’t understand. Im not writing this so whoever is reading can just read
this and nod their head in agreement and keep scrolling. No, I have more to say
about this. My goal with this blog is to make people aware and to influence a
change, no matter how small. I remember this story I read about this woman who
had done something wrong who was going to get beaten with rocks until she died
as a punishment for this thing she had done wrong. I know this sounds off topic
but stay with me. Then a man stood next to her and says something to the crowd that
causes them to inquire within themselves their own actions and things they had
also done wrong and this caused them to chose not to harm the woman. Its time
that we ourselves look inside of us and the things that have happened in our
lives and consider others. When I say consider others, I mean to put yourself in
their shoes, give them the benefit of the doubt once in a while. Though there are exceptions in every case. For
a few years now I’ve been able to go outside and see people, people in their cars,
people in the store, many people and I am able to picture them and their lives.
I would ask myself things like “I wonder what things look like from their eyes?”
and this question isn’t just literally what does it look like but what does the
world look like through their experiences? This is what im trying to ask you all
to see. See people through eyes of understanding. Ignorance is bliss, its
easier to just put this aside and stay blissful. Its hard to see everyone with
eyes of love and understanding. I try to do it but many times I just forget. Or
I become selfish and caught up in my own perspective. A song that first brought
this whole perspective thing to my mind is called “Bleed the Same” by Mandisa, go
check it out. We are all blank pages that we are trying to fill with our
stories, why not help each other. What is stopping you from helping someone,
and making it into their story as someone who might have saved their lives with
a smile or given hope to someone who was giving up on the good in the world or maybe
you smiled at someone and they just ignored you. Trust me, all of these people will
remember you and what you did for them. So go out there, and see with eyes of
understanding. Eyes that can imagine what another person went through that day
or what they have to go home to. And share with that person your light. We are
all born with a light and it is either big or small depending on where we are
in life but that light is never gone and its always available to share.
