The Family and Society

                                     - The Family: A Proclamation to the World                     Hello all! Im back with a beautiful lesson I learned this week in my Family relations class. But first I would love to draw your attention to the quote at the top of the page. The family, as it says, is “ the fundamental unit of society.” This to me means that without the family unit our society as a whole would crumble. We can see how today “society” is very confused on what it means to be a family. Most don’t even know what qualifies as a family anymore. To me it has always been simple. Family is made and ordained by God and marriage is between a man and a woman. I say this with respect to the opinions of others. This is the path I have chose to follow and I will tell you why. The Family: A Proclamation to the world makes clear what Gods plan is for us as men and woman, Husband and wife and as parents. This proclamation is what I stand by. I know that there is much confusion on gender and gender roles in todays society but its actually quite simple. Let me ask you a question. Is God a God of confusion? The answer is no. 1 Corinthians 14:33 “ God is not a God of disorder but of peace and order.” One characteristic of God and his work is that he is orderly. “Mine is a house of order, saith the lord God, and not a house of confusion.” Doctrine and Covenants 132:8. He goes on to say that if it is not this then it is Satan’s work.  Now, I would like to clarify somethings at this point. God is a loving heavenly father who sent his Son to die for ALL of us. GOD DOES NOT LOVE US ANY LESS BECAUSE OF THE PATH WE HAVE CHOSEN. He loves all of His children equally and that will never change. One of the most beautiful gifts God has given us is the ability to choose, to choose who we want to be, how we want to raise our kids ect. He gave us the gift of choice because he loves us so much. But with this gift He has also given us the Commandments, the way in which we can thank Him for this gift is by following His commandments so we can return back to Him one day. THAT is how we will make it back to him. The only thing stopping us is if we chose not to live the commandments. Again, that doesn’t mean He stops loving us. He wants us to be happy and He know exactly where that happiness can be found. I know that as we trust Him and follow His teachings, we will be happy. And if we all do this, just imagine the type of society we could have. I don’t know about you but to me it looks peaceful, not that cheesy utopia where people are barefoot and have flowers in their hair, no not that. But a peace and love that cant be expressed. The feeling just warms my heart to think about. Jesus taught us to love one another, as he has loved us. I strive to one day become filled with that Christ like love. And I hope this has helped at least one person out there to know of the love of God and the importance of families in society.

Understanding the Split

  There are so many things that happen when a family goes though a divorce. The family also goes through a lot when the parent gets remarried. Let’s talk about a few of the things that change between whole, divorced and remarried families. these examples are from the book Treating the Remarried Family. The first example that i would like to talk about is how in nuclear families having children is usually a common goal the couple shares. In a remarried family this isn’t always the case. In a nuclear family there could already be children from the father or mothers side. Also with the remarried couple they might have other obligations, like financial, to their previous family that they have to take care of and that could be putting a strain on the idea of the new couple having children.
